Malta's annual inflation rate eased to 2.0% in June 2026, marking the lowest level since February 2025, down from 2.1% in the previous month.
The slowdown was mainly supported by easing price growth in food (1.8% vs 2.0%) and transport (2.6% vs 2.9%), followed by recreation, sport and culture (3.4% vs 3.9%), health (3.0% vs 3.1%) and restaurants and accommodation services (3.0% vs 3.6%).
Meanwhile, deflation eased for clothing and footwear (-3.9% vs -4.3%) and information and communication (-1.6% vs -2.5%).
In contrast, price growth accelerated for housing and utilities (2.8% vs 2.5%), furnishings (2.6% vs 2.4%), alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (1.6% vs 1.5%) and education services (3.2% vs 3.1%).
Costs in insurance and financial services rebounded, increased 0.3% following a 0.2% drop.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 1.1%, easing from 1.4% in the previous month.
