Samsung Electronics (SSNLF) shares jumped about 6% after the company unveiled a dedicated robotics division, signaling a deeper push into humanoid robots and physical AI as its next long-term growth engine.

The new RX, or Robotics eXperience, division will oversee Samsung's robotics strategy, core technology development and commercialization. CEO TM Roh will lead the initiative directly, while former Hyundai Motor robotics executive Lee Dongkun will head the Robotics Strategy Team.

Samsung is one of the world's largest technology companies, spanning smartphones, memory chips, consumer electronics and semiconductor manufacturing. It is increasingly investing in robotics as AI expands beyond software into machines that can interact with the physical world.

The company also plans to establish robotics research hubs in the U.S., China and Japan. Earlier this month, Samsung announced plans to invest about 60 trillion won in South Korea's Yeongnam region, including physical AI infrastructure and humanoid robot manufacturing after increasing its stake in Rainbow Robotics.
