According to Yonhap, online shopping sales in South Korea rose about 10% from a year earlier in June, driven by stronger demand for mobile devices and automobiles. The value of online shopping transactions reached 24.6 trillion won ($17 billion), up 2.3 trillion won from a year earlier, according to data from South Korea's Ministry of Data and Statistics. Sales of mobile devices more than doubled to 892.4 billion won, apparently helped by promotional events by Samsung Electronics, while spending on automobiles and related products jumped 56.8% to 1.19 trillion won on strong sales of Tesla EVs. Spending on food products, including agricultural and fishery goods, increased 11% to 4.6 trillion won, cosmetic products rose 9.9% to 1.26 trillion won, and food delivery services climbed 4.7% to 3.61 trillion won. Purchases made through smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices rose 9.8% to 18.9 trillion won and accounted for 76.9% of total sales, down 0.7 percentage point from a year earlier.
