Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing NYSE:TSM may accelerate production of its advanced 3-nanometer chips several months ahead of schedule, giving investors another signal that demand from Nvidia NASDAQ:NVDA, AMD NASDAQ:AMD and Broadcom remains exceptionally strong. The earlier ramp could support faster second-half revenue growth while easing a critical supply constraint for leading AI-chip designers.
TSMC is the world's largest contract chipmaker, manufacturing processors designed by companies that do not operate their own advanced fabrication plants. Its most sophisticated production nodes command premium pricing and are increasingly important for AI accelerators, data-center processors and high-end consumer electronics.
Wedbush said TSMC could reach 180,000 monthly 3-nanometer wafer starts early in the fourth quarter, two to three months earlier than previously expected. That would represent a sizable increase from approximately 150,000 wafer starts per month during the first half of 2026.
The added production is reportedly supported by orders from Nvidia, AMD and Broadcom, three companies benefiting directly from rising spending on AI computing infrastructure.
TSMC's next-generation 2-nanometer ramp may also be progressing rapidly. Wedbush analyst Matt Bryson said monthly starts could rise from 50,000 to 60,000 during the first half to more than 80,000 early in the fourth quarter and approach 100,000 by year-end.
On 2nm, the paper puts 1H26 starts at 50-60k per month, rising above 80k by early 4Q and approaching 100k by year-end, which would take combined 2nm plus 3nm above 260k per month, Bryson said.
TSMC shares rose 2.5% by midday Tuesday.
Investor Takeaway On TSMC Stock
Investors should watch whether increased wafer starts translate into stronger utilization, revenue and margins rather than simply higher capacity. Sustained orders from Nvidia, AMD and Broadcom would support TSMC's upbeat second-half outlook and reinforce its technological lead.
The investment case would strengthen if the 2-nanometer ramp stays on schedule and customers commit to multiyear volumes. The key risks are weaker AI demand, lower manufacturing yields or aggressive capacity additions that pressure pricing. Advanced-node revenue mix and gross-margin guidance will be crucial indicators in TSMC's next earnings update.
