Amazon.com (AMZN, Financials) the e-commerce, cloud computing and digital services company behind Amazon Web Services and Prime, turned 32, and its story is still moving.
Jeff Bezos started the company on July 5, 1994, in Bellevue, Washington, after leaving Wall Street to bet on the internet. At first, Amazon was simply a place to buy books online.
That feels like a long time ago. Today, Amazon is a giant in online shopping, delivery, advertising, streaming and cloud computing.
For investors, the company is no longer just about how many packages it ships. It is also about how much profit it can make from Amazon Web Services, how well it controls costs and how carefully it spends on artificial intelligence.
That is what makes this anniversary interesting. Amazon has already proved it can change. Now it has to prove it can keep growing without overspending.
The next big focus will be whether AWS can stay strong, retail margins can improve and AI investments can turn into real business gains.
