Palantir Technologies NASDAQ:PLTR shares fell about 4% on Wednesday as investors weighed valuation concerns, recent insider stock sales and a cautious backdrop for AI software companies ahead of the company's second-quarter earnings report.

The decline came as Palantir Technologies prepares to report quarterly results on Aug. 3. The company has remained one of the strongest-performing AI software names this year, but its premium valuation has continued to draw scrutiny from some investors, with shares trading at roughly 90 times forward earnings.

Recent insider transactions also remained in focus. Earlier this month, Palantir Technologies' chief technology officer sold about $24 million worth of shares under a pre-arranged trading plan, while a company director sold more than $2 million in stock on July 15 under a similar arrangement.

The broader technology sector offered limited support during the session, with AI software stocks facing pressure as investors assessed whether AI agents could reshape traditional enterprise software business models. Market participants are now looking to Palantir Technologies' Aug. 3 earnings report for updates on growth, profitability and demand trends that may help determine the stock's near-term direction.
