Tesla NASDAQ:TSLA, an electric-vehicle manufacturer developing autonomous-driving and energy products, fell approximately 1.5% to $302.94 in Wednesday's regular-session trading, extending its decline to five consecutive sessions. Four of those losses followed Tesla's weaker-than-expected second-quarter earnings. The shares have declined approximately 32% during 2026 and 6% over the preceding 12 months, according to Barron's.
RBC analyst Tom Narayan reduced his Tesla price target by $20 to $480 following the report. The average analyst target has declined by approximately $18 since Tesla released its earnings, although the reductions have not pushed the consensus below the current share price. ARK Invest, an investment manager led by Cathie Wood, purchased approximately 40,000 Tesla shares Tuesday, but the transaction did not prevent the stock from weakening again Wednesday.
Tesla would fall below a $1 trillion market value at a share price of approximately $253, based on roughly 3.95 billion shares outstanding as of July 16. From Wednesday's $302.94 price, reaching that threshold would require an additional decline of approximately 16.5%. The company's share count has increased from about 3.2 billion one year earlier, partly because Chief Executive Elon Musk exercised options from his 2018 compensation package. Investors may now assess whether post-earnings estimate reductions continue and whether Tesla's operating performance can stabilize sentiment before the shares move materially closer to the trillion-dollar boundary.
