Lynas Rare Earths said it will partner with South Korea's JS Link to develop a rare-earth permanent magnet factory in Malaysia.
Under the agreement, JS Link will establish a factory in Kuantan city capable of producing 3,000 metric tons of neodymium-iron-boron permanent sintered magnets annually, Lynas said. The magnet factory is intended to supply automotive, wind energy and electronics industries in South Korea, Malaysia and other key markets.
The Australian rare-earths producer will invest about 50 million Australian dollars, equivalent to US$35 million, in JS Link, which will use the funds to support construction of the factory. The investment represents roughly 4.6% of JS Link's equity, Lynas said.
The miner said it will supply rare earths to JS Link's magnet factory in Yesan, South Korea, and to the planned factory in Malaysia at commercial prices under an exclusive supply arrangement until January 2038. The Malaysian factory is expected to be built at a site near Lynas's rare-earths processing plant in Kuantan.
The deal follows a memorandum of understanding agreed to by the companies in July 2025.
