Australian energy producer Santos ASX:STO executed a previously announced deal with the South Australian government to supply 200 petajoules of gas over 10 years from 2030, the company said on Monday.
Here are some more details on the deal from Santos:
The agreement formalises key terms announced in February
Santos will supply about 20 petajoules of gas per year to the state’s Strategic Gas Reserve from its Moomba operations.
The 10-year term will start from March 1, 2030 till 2040.
Prepayment component of the deal will help fund Moomba Central Optimisation project, which is planned to be delivered over three years.
Support long-term future of the Cooper Basin Central Fields near Moomba in South Australia.
Create jobs in Adelaide and regional South Australia for at least the next 15 years.
Ensure South Australia's industrial future and energy security, including the planned sale and transformation of the Whyalla Steelworks.
Santos CEO Kevin Gallagher said the deal would secure domestic gas supply for South Australia while underpinning future investment in the basin.
