Australian shares were poised to open higher on Monday, with mining stocks expected to gain on stronger underlying prices, though rising oil prices following tit-for-tat U.S. and Iranian strikes could limit broader market gains.

The local share price index futures (YAPcm1) rose 0.2%, a 9.8-point premium to the underlying S&P/ASX 200 index ASX:XJO close. The benchmark rose 0.2% on Friday.

New Zealand's benchmark S&P/NZX 50 index NZX:NZ50G fell 0.4% in early trade.
