Bhutan’s Gelephu Mindfulness City has appointed Canadian digital asset manager 3iQ to manage a mandate backed by part of its Bitcoin reserves. According to Odaily, the size of the allocation was not disclosed.

Under the arrangement, 3iQ will manage some of the Bitcoin set aside to support Gelephu’s development, and the company plans to establish a long-term presence locally, invest in local talent, and provide training and knowledge transfer. Bhutan said in 2025 that it would allocate up to 10,000 Bitcoin from national holdings to support GMC. The parties did not disclose the amount under management, custody arrangements, or whether the mandate allows lending, derivatives, or other yield-generating strategies.

3iQ CEO Pascal St-Jean said the company will bring institutional discipline to the mandate and use Bhutan’s capital in a responsible, transparent, and long-term manner. Gelephu board member Jigdrel Singay said 3iQ is one of the city’s founding institutional partners.
