Indian shares opened marginally higher on Tuesday, extending a four-session rally on positive pre-earnings corporate updates and on signs that foreign investors were returning as buyers.

The benchmark Nifty 50 NSE:NIFTY rose 0.14% to 24,464.45, while the BSE Sensex BSE:SENSEX added 0.22% to 78,461.16, as of 9:15 a.m. IST.

Thirteen of the 16 major sectors logged gains at the open. The broader small-caps NSE:CNXSMALLCAP and mid-caps NSE:CNXMIDCAP rose about 0.2% each.

The Nifty 50 and the Sensex BSE:SENSEX have risen 2.4% each over the last four sessions to notch their highest close in 10 weeks, helped in part by banks after first-quarter updates showed solid loan growth.

The rally was also aided by Brent crude ICEEUR:BRN1! holding near $72 a barrel, progress in monsoon rains and foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) turning buyers for three straight sessions.

Among stocks, Titan NSE:TITAN gained 1.5% after it reported a 41% growth in consumer business in the first quarter, helped by healthy festival demand in its core jewellery segment.

Trent NSE:TRENT fell about 10% after the apparel retailer posted a softer-than-expected standalone revenue growth in the June quarter in its business update.
