Canadian exports of refined petroleum products rose to record levels in April amid continued strong global demand due to the fighting in Iran, according to government data Tuesday.
Production of crude and equivalents also remained strong during the month, marking the 11th consecutive monthly year-over-year increase, according to Statistics Canada.
Exports of finished petroleum products totaled 14.754 million bbl during the month, up 13.8% from March and nearly 70% above the same month last year. It was the highest monthly total recorded since Statistics Canada began keeping such data, the agency said.
The exports included 3.14 million bbl of finished motor gasoline, a 139% increase from March levels, 963,510 bbl of jet fuel, up 78% from March, and 7.3 million bbl of distillate, up 6.3%, the data show.
Crude oil production during the month totaled 146.185 million bbl. That was 3.4% lower than the previous month but 4.3% higher than in April 2025.
Production of equivalent products totaled 17.279 million bbl, down 2.1% from the previous month but up 3.5% from a year earlier, according to Statistics Canada.
Exports of crude and equivalents fell by 3.8% from the previous month to 136.166 million bbl. That, however, was 11.4% higher than a year earlier, with exports to the U.S. by pipeline rising 8.8% year over year, while marine exports to destinations in Asia and Europe climbed 46.6%, the agency said.
Production of finished gasoline totaled 21.386 million bbl during the month, down 8% from the month before. Gasoline products supplied during the month were 20.01 million bbl, a 9.2% decrease from the month before. Gasoline inventories rose 0.9% to 1.7 million bbl.
Distillate production in April fell 11.4% to 21.4 million bbl. Distillate products supplied during the month were 7% lower to 15.78 million bbl. Distillate inventories fell by 4.8% to 15.47 million bbl, the data show.
Jet fuel production rose 5.2%to 4.172 million bbl. Jet fuel products supplied during the month fell 3.6% to 4.34 million bbl. Inventories ended the month at 2.97 million bbl, a 6% increase from the previous month.
