The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Greece fell to 8.1% in May 2026 from a downwardly revised 9.1% in the previous month, marking the lowest level since November 2008.

The number of unemployed individuals fell by 48.0 thousand from a month earlier to an over seventeen-year low of 383.7 thousand and decreased by 29.6 thousand year-on-year.

Unemployment remained significantly higher among women than men, with rates of 11.7% for women and 5.0% for men.

Meanwhile, the number of people outside the labour force, those under 75 who are neither employed nor actively seeking work, rose by 25.1 thousand month-on-month to 2,980 thousand but declined by 24.6 thousand year-on-year.

The total number of employed persons increased by 18.7 thousand from the prior month to 4,353 thousand.
