European indexes climb as the morning progresses after opening largely in the red. More defensive stocks--those viewed by investors as less sensitive to economic downturns--rally, with a basket of healthcare stocks rising 1.5%, while a food-and-beverage gauge is up 2%. The Europe-wide Stoxx 600 is up 0.5%. Grocers help boost London's FTSE 100 and the CAC 40 up 0.5% and 0.7%, respectively. Germany's DAX is up 0.3% as pharmaceutical giant Bayer jumps 5% after a broker upgrade, though AI-related stocks slide. The semiconductor-heavy AEX remains lower, falling 0.7% in Amsterdam. ASML drops 3.8%. Italy's FTSE MIB and Spain's IBEX 35 both climb 0.6%. (josephmichael.stonor@wsj.com)
