STOXX SHRUGS OFF TECH WEAKNESS; AUTOS BOUNCE

European shares steadied on Tuesday as gains in energy and consumer stocks more than offset weakness in technology shares, where investors took profits despite Samsung's blowout earnings.

The STOXX 600 TVC:SXXP rose 0.2%, hovering just below the record high touched on Monday.

Autos (.SXAP) rose for a sixth straight session after hitting six-year lows in June. They were last up 1.7% but remain Europe's worst performer this year.
