Micron Technology and General Motors signed an agreement to secure a supply of memory and storage platforms critical to GM's vehicle production.
GM will secure supply of certain memory products, including LPDRAM, NOR and UFS NAND, to make sure it can keep producing vehicles with the latest technology and safety features.
The agreement comes as memory shortages are driving up prices for companies that need such software for their products. The explosion of AI development in recent years has driven up demand for memory, resulting in supply shortages and higher prices.
Micron has been spending on expanding and localizing memory supply for car makers, including the $2 billion expansion of a DRAM-manufacturing facility in Manassas, Va.
Micron said in its third-quarter financial report last month that it had 16 strategic customer agreements. The deal with GM is one of them, the company said Wednesday.
