Italian energy group Eni MIL:ENI said on Monday it had successfully begun production from its Sabratha Compression project with Libya's National Oil Corporation (NOC), a strategic offshore development aimed at increasing gas output.
The project will help counteract the natural decline of the Bahr Essalam gas field.
The project is expected to increase gas production by about 800 million cubic metres per year, plus associated condensates.
A new 1,600-ton compression module with new compression trains will be installed on the offshore Sabratha platform.
The new facilities have a total capacity of around 440 million standard cubic feet per day.
The gas will support Libya's domestic electricity production and exports to Italy via the GreenStream pipeline.
