AdaptHealth said it is investigating a social engineering cyberattack that put patient data at risk.
The full-service medical equipment company said the external user gained access to its business applications, including internal patient management systems and document storage platforms.
The company has disabled the user account, reset affected credentials and implemented additional access controls.
The data affected includes insurance bill passwords and personally identifiable and protected health information of patients, though AdaptHealth said it has not been able to determine the specific volume of data affected.
AdaptHealth shares fell 7.1% to $10.00 after hours.
