Amazon (AMZN, Financials) has been slashing jobs in its artificial general intelligence group as it reconsiders its AI development endeavors.
The organization is focused on huge models and autonomous agents, such as Amazon Nova Act, a tool that helps companies construct systems that can explore websites and perform basic online chores.
Amazon said that big AI models remain a top priority for the company, but it is focusing resources on programs it believes are most important to customers. The change has resulted in employment losses in portions of the AGI organization.
The changes come as Amazon continues to invest extensively in cloud infrastructure and AI. The corporation has also cut jobs across the business and committed approximately $200 billion in capital expenditures.
Amazon already has cut around 16,000 jobs this year as part of a bigger strategy that could slash some 30,000 positions. A lot of those jobs were created in the hiring boom that came after the outbreak.
Amazon's latest move is a sign that it is trying to balance its long-term bets on AI along with more operating discipline.
Investors will be watching to see if the sharper focus helps Amazon to speed up the development of AI products while protecting margins and controlling costs.
