Thursday's EU court ruling on Google's $4.7 billion fine over its Android operating system is an important victory, FairSearch, a group of organizations that filed the first complaint to the European Commission back in 2013, says. "While the law moved too slowly to prevent Google from dominating mobile markets, the underlying principles pursued by the complainants and the European Commission in this case have now been embodied in European laws, including the Digital Markets Act," a spokesperson says. "Today, the battleground is AI markets, where anticompetitive conduct risks being repeated and can be addressed by European competition law and regulations spawned by this Google Android case and others."
