Meta Platforms NASDAQ:META is reportedly weighing a $6.5 billion AI chip deal with Samsung Foundry, a move that could shift part of its MTIA roadmap away from Taiwan Semiconductor NYSE:TSM.
Sedaily reported that Meta is in talks with Samsung Electronics (SSNLF) to design and produce next-generation MTIA AI chips using Samsung's 2nm process.
The deal would be worth more than 10 trillion won and would mark a major win for Samsung after TSMC produced Meta's first 2 generations of in-house AI accelerators.
Meta is trying to scale its AI infrastructure quickly, targeting 5GW of data center capacity by 2030 and reportedly planning new AI chip releases every 6 months. The company is also working with Samsung's System LSI division on chip development, according to the report.
