Nvidia NASDAQ:NVDA and Meta Platforms NASDAQ:META have joined a new AI alliance launched by British startup CuspAI to accelerate the discovery of next-generation materials used in semiconductor manufacturing and other advanced industries.

Called the AI Materials Foundry, the 48-member coalition brings together technology companies, industrial partners and research institutions to use AI to identify new materials faster and at a lower cost. CuspAI has also raised $450 million in Series B funding backed by investors including Jeff Bezos' fund to expand labs in Cambridge, Singapore and the San Francisco Bay Area.

CuspAI originally focused on materials for carbon capture and water purification but shifted its strategy after seeing surging demand from the semiconductor industry. The company says chipmakers are increasingly searching for new materials to improve performance, cooling and energy efficiency as AI infrastructure becomes more powerful.
