British artificial intelligence startup CuspAI launched the AI Materials Foundry, a consortium bringing together 48 technology, industrial and research organizations, including Nvidia NASDAQ:NVDA, Meta Platforms NASDAQ:META and Hyundai Motor Group (HYMTF), to accelerate the discovery of advanced materials for semiconductor manufacturing.
CuspAI said the initiative will combine computing infrastructure with scientific expertise to develop software aimed at reducing the time and cost required to identify next-generation materials used in chips and other industrial applications. The company recently secured $450 million in Series B funding backed by investors including Jeff Bezos' investment fund. Part of the proceeds will support laboratory expansion with foundry partners in Cambridge, Singapore and the San Francisco Bay area.
CuspAI was initially focused on materials for carbon capture and water purification but shifted its strategy toward semiconductor applications as demand from the AI chip supply chain increased. The company said growing requirements for advanced materials have expanded opportunities across the semiconductor industry.
Nvidia said it expects to collaborate with CuspAI and other alliance members on materials research projects, while Meta joins the coalition as part of broader efforts to support AI infrastructure development.
