Nokia NYSE:NOK introduced what it described as the industry's first commercial artificial intelligence-native radio access network (AI-RAN) platform developed with Nvidia NASDAQ:NVDA, targeting higher network capacity and improved spectrum utilization for telecom operators.

Nokia said the platform combines its AI-native anyRAN software with Nvidia's Aerial AI-RAN technology. The companies expect the system to more than double spectral efficiency by 2028, allowing wireless carriers to transmit more data over existing spectrum resources. The platform has already demonstrated more than 20% gains in spectral efficiency through AI-based radio capabilities.

Nokia plans to begin pilot deployments of the AI-RAN platform later this year, with commercial availability scheduled for 2027. The rollout will use Nvidia's programmable merchant silicon platforms as part of its long-term product roadmap.

The launch follows the strategic partnership the companies established less than 10 months ago, which included Nvidia taking an equity stake in Nokia. Nvidia Chief Executive Jensen Huang said integrating AI into radio access networks could improve network efficiency while supporting future AI services and helping lay the groundwork for next-generation 6G wireless technology.
