Archer Aviation NYSE:ACHR achieved a major goal after its Midnight electric aircraft completed a piloted round trip between two California airports, providing another operational milestone for the air-taxi developer.

The Midnight aircraft flew from Salinas Municipal Airport to Monterey Regional Airport on July 30 before returning to Salinas. Each flight segment took about nine minutes, compared with roughly 35 minutes or more by car. Archer Aviation said it worked with the Federal Aviation Administration on the flight.

Archer Aviation plans to use the route as a model for operations under the White House's eVTOL Integration Pilot Program. The company is also working with officials in Texas, Florida and New York and expects Midnight to support air-taxi operations during the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

The latest flight does not represent the start of commercial service, leaving regulatory approvals, infrastructure and operating support as key hurdles.

The milestone could improve confidence in Archer Aviation's development timeline, but investors will likely focus on whether successful test flights translate into approved commercial operations and eventually revenue.
