Ford sold fewer vehicles in the second quarter, citing in part the phaseout of two of its models as it prepares for a new electric pickup truck.
The car maker said Thursday its second-quarter sales declined 10% from a year earlier to 549,200 vehicles.
Ford attributed the drop to the planned phaseout of its Ford Escape and Lincoln Corsair vehicles as it focuses on its new, affordable small electric pickup, and also cited a 69% drop in daily rental sales.
The company said it is currently working to retool its assembly plant in Louisville, Ky., to build the new electric pickup next year.
In the quarter, sport-utility-vehicle sales fell 16% despite growth for its Bronco and Explorer vehicles. Truck sales declined 7%, while car sales rose 3.4%.
