STOCKHOLM--Swedish miner Boliden is in talks over the potential acquisition of a majority stake in Nexa Resources, it said Thursday.

The company said the discussions, with Nexa Resources and its majority owner Votorantim, concern the possible acquisition of Votorantim's shares in the company, but noted that there is no certainty a deal will happen or what the terms of any such deal would be.

Miner Nexa Resources has operations in Brazil and Peru, producing zinc, copper and lead, among other elements. It owns and operates two underground mines in Peru and a further two in Brazil, one open-pit mine in Peru, with two zinc smelters in Brazil and one in Peru.

Shares in New York Stock Exchange-listed Nexa Resources rose 8.4% in premarket trading.

Votorantim owns just under 65% of the shares in Nexa Resources.

Votorantim and Nexa Resources didn't immediately respond to requests for comment.
