Oslo, 02 July 2026: Scatec ASA, a leading renewable energy solutions provider, has started commercial operations of the 142 MW Rio Urucuia solar power plant in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Rio Urucuia is Scatec's third solar project in Brazil, bringing Scatec's total installed capacity in the country to 835 MW.

The project generates revenues under a 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Statkraft, a leading renewable energy company, covering approximately 75% of expected production. The remainder will be sold in the spot market and under short, medium and long-term PPAs.

“We are pleased to begin generating electricity from our third solar project in Brazil, expanding our power generation in the country. As our first plant in the southeast submarket, where power demand is strong, Rio Urucuia is diversifying our Brazilian footprint,” says Scatec CEO Terje Pilskog.“Rio Urucuia marks an important milestone for Scatec in Brazil, strengthening our presence in Minas Gerais and adding clean, reliable power to the region. We are proud of the work delivered by our teams and partners, and of the positive contribution this project will make to local communities and Brazil’s energy transition,” adds Aleksander Skaare, General Manager Brazil at Scatec.

Rio Urucuia is expected to produce approximately 321 GWh of clean electricity annually, equivalent to an estimated abatement of 21,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year. Scatec holds a 100% ownership stake in the project, with the aim to bring in equity partners to further enhance value creation. Scatec will provide Operations & Maintenance and Asset Management services for the plant.
