Peru's monthly consumer prices rose 0.23% in June, according to data published Wednesday by the national statistics agency INEI. That was above the 0.1% median forecast in a Reuters poll and followed a 0.16% decline in May.
INEI said the monthly increase was driven mainly by food and non-alcoholic beverages, which rose 0.67%, as well as restaurants and hotels, up 0.42%, and miscellaneous goods and services, which inched up 0.17%. Transport prices fell 0.46%, partly offsetting the increase.
Annual inflation in Lima - the nation's main inflation benchmark - accelerated to 4.01% in the 12 months through June, up from 3.91% in May, and still above the central bank's 1% to 3% target range.
