Polish grid operator PSE has called on power producers to meet their capacity obligations on Tuesday evening to boost generation reserves as the country grapples with a heatwave and low generation from wind farms.
The call is a remedial measure that the grid can use when the generation capacity surplus above projected demand is significantly lower than the required safe level. The PSE call is from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. local time on Tuesday (0400 GMT to 0700 GMT).
"Projected surplus of 600 megawatts for this evening is too small compared to expected demand," PSE spokesperson Maciej Wapinski told Reuters.
While Poland's ample solar capacity doubles power demand on weekends, supplying the system may be challenging on hot weekday evenings when solar output fades and demand remains high due to air-conditioning use. Low wind output exacerbates the issue.
