Spot basis bids for corn shipped by barge to U.S. Gulf Coast terminals steadied on Tuesday after a recent rise, while soybean barge bids eased.
Farmer selling of crops remained slow, traders said, as some growers held out hope that short-covering may spark a rally in futures prices this summer.
Corn stocks as of June 1 were 5.295 billion bushels, up from 4.643 billion a year earlier, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in a report. That was below the average estimate of 5.408 billion, signaling strong use of corn to feed U.S. livestock, analysts said.
U.S. farmers planted 95.343 million acres of corn in 2026, down from 98.788 million last year but above the average analyst estimate for 94.992 million, USDA said in another report.
For soybeans, stocks rose to 1.061 billion bushels as of June 1 from 1.008 billion a year earlier, topping the analyst estimate of 1.046 billion.
The USDA pegged soybean plantings at 85.365 million acres, up from 81.215 million in 2025 and on par with estimates.
At the Gulf, CIF corn barges loaded in June were bid at 90 cents over CBOT July (CN26) futures, unchanged from Monday.
FOB export premiums for Gulf corn vessels loaded in July stayed at about 103 cents over futures, and August premiums were around 108 cents over September (CU26) futures.
CIF soybean barges loaded in July were bid at 87 cents over futures, down 3 cents.
FOB export premiums for soybean vessels loaded at the Gulf in July were around 110 cents over CBOT July futures, and premiums for August loadings were at 108 cents over August (SQ26) futures.
In other news, exporters sold 100,000 metric tons of U.S. hard red spring wheat to Nigeria for 2026/2027 delivery. USDA said in a daily reporting system.
