Standard Chartered said it appointed Margaret Harwood-Jones to the newly-created role of chief executive for Europe and the U.K. to drive growth and greater alignment across the region's markets.

The Hong Kong and London-listed bank said Tuesday that Harwood-Jones is currently global head of Financing & Securities Services and that she has over 30 years of experience within financial services, having previously held roles at BNP Paribas and HSBC.

Standard Chartered also said it appointed Joerg Hessenmuller as chief executive of Standard Chartered Bank AG. SCB is Standard Chartered's Continental Europe headquartered bank in Germany.

Hessenmuller replaces Nicolo Salsano.
