Average weekly production of ethanol in the U.S. exceeded the expectations of surveyed analysts for the week.
In its latest report published Wednesday, the Energy Information Administration said average ethanol production for the week ended June 26 was 1.117 million barrels a day. That's up 27,000 barrels a day from the prior week. Analysts surveyed by Dow Jones forecast production to land between 1.08 million barrels and 1.11 million barrels a day.
Ethanol stocks also rose, climbing to 24.69 million barrels. That's up 95,000 barrels from last week, and lands just above the high end of analyst forecasts.
Most-active CBOT corn futures were up 0.8% in trading Wednesday, while soybeans climbed 0.7% and wheat surged 2.7%.
