Apple NASDAQ:AAPL regained its position as the world's most valuable publicly traded company on Friday after its market capitalization edged past Nvidia NASDAQ:NVDA, reflecting a shift in investor sentiment around artificial intelligence.
Apple's market value reached about $4.88 trillion as its shares traded little changed, while Nvidia's valuation slipped to roughly $4.86 trillion after its stock fell about 3.5%. The change marks the first time Apple has held the top spot since April 2025 after Nvidia led global valuations for more than a year.
Apple has recently strengthened its AI strategy, including updates to Siri, as investors increasingly focus on the company's ability to generate AI-related revenue through its services ecosystem and hardware. The leadership transition also comes ahead of CEO Tim Cook's planned handover to John Ternus in September.
Nvidia remains one of the largest beneficiaries of AI infrastructure spending, while investors have also broadened their attention to other semiconductor companies. Memory chipmakers such as Micron (MU) and South Korea's SK Hynix have attracted interest as demand for AI hardware expands, although AI-related chip stocks have faced increased volatility in recent weeks.
