Ford Motor (F, Financials) is recalling more than 741,000 vehicles in the U.S. after regulators found a problem that could make some parked vehicles roll away.
The issue involves the transmission and park system. If parts are damaged, a vehicle may not stay securely parked.
The recall covers certain Navigator, Expedition, Explorer, Lincoln Aviator and F-150 models.
Owners will not have to pay for the fix. Dealers will update the software, inspect the transmission and replace damaged parts if needed.
Ford is also recalling about 36,000 Bronco vehicles because the fender flares may come loose. If they fall off while driving, they could create a road hazard.
For investors, the recalls are not unusual in the auto industry, but they still matter. Repairs cost money, and repeated safety issues can hurt confidence in a brand.
The next thing to watch is whether Ford keeps the recall limited to these models or finds related problems in more vehicles.
