SpaceX NASDAQ:SPCX is offering Starlink discounts in Memphis, Tennessee, as the Elon Musk-led company faces growing pressure from community opposition and legal challenges tied to its data center operations in the area and nearby Mississippi.

Customers who opt in could receive Starlink service plans at half the normal monthly price, with regular plans ranging from $55 to $130 per month. SpaceX said the discount can also be shared with friends and family, while new users will not have to pay upfront hardware costs.

The offer could reflect an effort by SpaceX to rebuild local support as xAI's data centers face criticism over pollution concerns. SpaceX bought xAI earlier this year, and the company has agreed to resume construction on a recycled wastewater plant in Memphis that is expected to clean wastewater for both SpaceX's Colossus plants and the Tennessee Valley Authority.
